Summary
Connecting an external antenna to your X12 Tri-Carrier device can improve your signal strength and overall internet speed. This guide will walk you through the steps to properly position and connect the antenna, as well as how to test the performance before and after the connection.
NOTE: Follow this guide for a complete understanding of the antenna ports on your X12 router
Step 1: Locate the Nearest Cell Tower
Before connecting the antenna, it’s important to point it toward the nearest cell tower for optimal signal reception.
- Find your address on Google Maps.
- Right-click on the pin for your address and copy the coordinates.
- Visit cellmapper.net and paste the coordinates into the location search bar.
-
Select the correct carrier (AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA, or Verizon USA) to see nearby towers.
Alternatively, you can send your location to us, and we’ll send you a screenshot of nearby towers.
Step 2: Position and Connect the Antenna
- Position your external antenna toward the nearest cell tower. Ensure that the antenna is placed in a location where it will have an unobstructed view of the tower for the best possible signal.
- Run the antenna cable into the house and position it near your router's location.
Step 3: Connect the Antenna to the X12 Router
- Locate the primary antenna port on the X12 router. This is the port on the far right when facing the back of the device, directly above the power inlet.
- Disconnect the existing antenna (if applicable).
- Connect the external antenna cable to the primary antenna port.
Step 4: Run a Speed Test
- Go to speedtest.net on a device connected to the X12 router.
- Run a speed test and record the results.
Step 5: Compare Results
- Disconnect the external antenna and run another speed test.
- Compare the two sets of results—one with the antenna connected and one without.
